Happy Fourth of July
To all my friends and family I hope that July 4th brings you pride and a sense of country. Even with my limited abilities i went out and put up Flag & bunting to show our pride today!

Saw this doggie at the Phoenix Pet Expo. This little guy had the same dappled black-and-white underside that our little Buxley has. The look as he turns his head around is even similar. His forearms look longer than Buxley’s, though, and Buxley’s tail is more fox-like.
I baked this confection using this flourless chocolate cake recipe. Is it delicious? Oh. My. God is it delicious! I had originally bought these eight mini Hershey’s Special Dark bars to eat as little desserts, but today I decided I wanted to bake a flourless chocolate cake for the first time. I found the recipe above which called for four ounces of bittersweet chocolate, so these "8-.49 oz bars" filled the bill perfectly! We also happened to have Hershey’s cocoa (natural unsweetened) in the house as well as sugar, unsweetened butter, and eggs (we’re a baking household). Oh, boy is it good! I’m so glad I decided to bake it.
One thing I would recommend, though, is to follow the recipe and use an "eight-inch" cake pan as opposed to this 9″ cake pan, because the smaller the pan, the taller the cake. And this one could stand to be a smidge taller. Other than that, «magnifique»!
I’m making three dozen of these tonight with this recipe:
1 cup butter, softened
1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
2 tsp vanilla extract
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
3 cups uncooked regular oats (I used cracked, toasted Coach’s Oats)
1 12-oz package Nestle’s Toll House semisweet chocolate morsels
1 cup pecan pieces
1. Preheat oven to 350º
2. In a large bowl, beat butter and sugars with an electric mixer at medium speed until creamy. Add eggs and vanilla, beating well.
3. In a medium bowl, combine flour, baking soda, and salt in a bowl, stirring well. Add oats; stir well. Add to butter mixture
and stir until well blended. Gently stir in chocolate morsels and pecan pieces. Drop by rounded tablespoons 2″ apart onto baking sheets lined with parchment paper (I used wax paper on two of the baking sheets and nothing on a non-stick baking sheet, and it worked fine.) Bake for 15 minutes or until peaks of golden brown appear on top. Cool on pan 5 minutes or until firm; cool on wire racks.
(I took this photo in April, but I’m making more of them tonight!)
I saw some photos of light painting on Flickr and figured out how to do it from reading the descriptions and EXIF data. So, when we were camping on a dark night last weekend, I got out the flashlight, set the camera on the picnic table for a 30-second exposure with a 10-second delay, ran into place, and wrote CAMP in the air (pointing the flashlight straight forward). I stopped at the end near the Coleman lantern hung on a tree branch and smiled, thus placing my face right in the curve of the P.

This little thing slips over my husband’s ear and makes our relationship different from any relationship in the history of the world– up until a decade ago. Okay, not just our relationship, but everyone’s. Just think of it– when else in history could a couple spend their whole commute home from work talking together in separate cars? We can now tell each other about our day, plan our evening, list things to do… sometimes we even discuss how we feel about each other and say anything that was left unsaid the last time we saw each other. By the time we get home after one of these discussions, we’ve moved past all that and are ready to settle into a comfortable evening together. Mobile phone technology and Bluetooth headsets have changed our lives, and I’d say for the better!
I took this photo in response to a monthly theme / challenge in the Gay Photographers (Family-Friendly) group titled "Belonging to Your Beloved." The object is to share a photo of something belonging to your beloved with a brief description of the item’s significance.
Andy & I are so blessed! We had a great Valentine’s Day and a double date with our friends Sean & Cody at Mi Pátio. This photo was taken by Cody with my camera.
This is me and my husband Andy reacting to the final moment of President Barak Hussein Obama’s oath of office to become president of the United States of America. We were not able to watch it together until we both came home from work. Thank goodness for DVR! We were both ecstatic to see our nation’s first Democratic president in eight years — as well as our nation’s first black president — finally take office after such a long wait. I’d like to thank each person who made this possible, and God only knows who you all are. Thank you!!
I hope ya’ll could hear Austin cheering from where you are! We are happy to see the country at large so hopeful again. More good things to come. Hope you and your pups are well!

The aloe plant in our front yard has quardrupled in size this past year, and has just sprouted its first flower buds. I look forward to documenting its progress as it unfolds.
This morning we took Buxley & Lady to the dog park at Steele Indian School Park. We met with our friend Mark and his dog Stanley, and we enjoyed meeting other dogs and their owners.

Beautiful work, honey. I like seeing the patriotism at our house and our neighbor’s. (And fortunately your abilities are only temporarily limited while you recover from your shoulder surgery.)
